David Herbert Fischer May 19, 1951 – July 9, 2011 He was born May 19, 1951,
in Hillsboro, the youngest of four children to Herbert Leonard and Katie Ann
(McGee) Fischer. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1969, and from Portland Community College in 1971 with an
associate’s degree in automobile technology. He had three wonderful
daughters from a previous marriage, Rebecca, Heather and Laura. He married
the love of his life, Darlene, on Feb. 29, 1992. They were able to do some
traveling and his favorite trip was to Scotland in the fall of 2003. He loved
the countryside there, with the heather, which was mostly dead then, but he
still thought it was beautiful. David loved music and never
met a musical instrument he couldn’t play. He used to say of new instruments,
“No one told me I don’t know how to play it,” and would pick it up and make
it sing. He played organ at church every opportunity he had, and also sang in
the choir. He played mandolin and sang with the Outhouse Singers for many
years. His passion for the last 10
years was playing the bagpipes. He played with the ODF band for the last five
years, driving to Salem from Culver (near Madras) on Saturday mornings as
often as he could. He was very proud to get his sergeant’s stripes last
spring at the Semi-Annual Training. He enjoyed going fishing with
his buddies at O’Dell Lake and on the Rogue River, and restoring old military
jeeps and cruising in parades with the military Vehicle Preservation
Association. His grand children were the apple of his eye, and he loved every
minute he got to spend with them. Friends will remember him fro his gift of
gab, quick wit, and wonderful sense of humor. Survivors include his wife,
Darlene Fischer of Culver; son, Andy Reese of Culver; daughters, Jeannette “Jenni” Muru of Seaside, Rebecca
“Becka” Fischer of Tacoma, Wash., Heather Grolet of Florida and Laura Fischer of Arizona; brother,
John Fischer of Sherwood; sisters Katherine George of West Linn, and Frances
Moss of Sherwood; granddaughters, Patience, Rebecca, Katie, Autumn and Alanah; grandson, Trenten; and
numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. |
